Year 2 2018 - 2019

Miss Millington

We have lots of exciting learning to look forward to this term.

The staff working with your children this year are; Miss Millington, Miss Gordon and Miss Grice.

Please ensure that your children have their swimming kits on Monday and PE kits on Fridays. Thank you.

We have had a very busy week in Year 2. In maths we have been adding and subtracting 2 digit number and multiple of 10.

We have started our new Science topic "Materials" and carried out an investigation to see which material would make the best roof for the 3 little pig's house.

We have also had a visit from "Skippy John" who worked with us to develop our skipping techniques. He also inspired us to skip for fitness.

This week we have been continuing our writing about the story "Into the forest" by Anthony Browne.

The children now have their very own dictionaries and we have been encouraging them to use them during their big write.

This week we have started our topic of traditional tales in English. We are reading the story "Into the forest" by Anthony Browne. We will be retelling the story so this week we have written the beginning of the story.

This week we have been investigating our new Science topic of Seasonal Change. We have looked at what happens in each season; Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter and we have been thinking about what type of clothing we would wear in each of these seasons.

In our topic work we have been learning all about the seaside! We have talked about our experiences of the seaside and the different types of activities that we might do there.

This week we have started worked very hard! In maths we have been investigating place value and finding the tens and ones in each number. We have been using equipment such as base ten and tens and ones counters and also using pictures.

In our English lessons we have been introduced to the story of "The lighthouse Keeper's Lunch" by Rhonda and David Armitage. We have looked at different adjectives we can use in our writing and have been reminding ourselves all about capital letters and full stops.
